Annual Repair Fair & Recycling Expo

Every year on the third Saturday in November, the James City Clean County Commission celebrates America Recycles Day (Nov. 15) by hosting the Annual Repair Fair & Recycling Expo. On Saturday, Nov. 18, the Clean County Commission will host the third Annual Repair Fair & Recycling Expo at Warhill High School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will include an outdoor drive-thru recycling drop-off for tires, glass, compost and soft plastic, as well as donation acceptance of furniture, household goods, building materials, clothing and shoes. Simultaneously there will be fixers indoors repairing lightly broken items. As a bonus – free shredding will be provided (maximum 2 bankers box/grocery store bags per person)!

Repair Fair

Did your 1-year-old vacuum stop working and is it too late to return? Did the clasp on your favorite piece of costume jewelry break? The Repair Fair will help mend items such as clothing, jewelry, small appliances, computers, wood objects (woodworking), metal objects (welding), bikes and more! It is recommended to register items in advance, with pictures and a detailed description so the proper supplies may be acquired, however walk-ins will be welcome. Registration will open in September.

NOTICE: The event hosts do not warrant any of the repairs, are not liable for any damage to or loss of property, and participation is at the risk of the participants.

Recycling Expo

The James City Solid Waste team will be collecting tires and glass for recycling. The James City Lions Club will be collecting plastic packaging, such as grocery bags and film for our community challenge with Trex. Habitat for Humanity ReStore will be accepting new or good condition used furniture, appliances and building materials (to see a full list of acceptable items click here). Soles4Souls (a non-profit) will be hosting a shoe and clothing drive. They distribute shoes and clothing during disaster relief and to kids experiencing homelessness in the U.S. and around the world. They also empower people in developing countries to launch and sustain their own small businesses by selling donated shoes.
